MY UNBELIZABLE ITINERARY
After sharing our trip to Belize via Instagram stories, I have had many people asking me for our Belize itinerary, so here it is finally with all links so if you are traveling, keep Belize in mind! It is a magical place to visit, unwind and RELAX!
First we flew directly from Chicago to Belize on UA and stayed one night in Belize City at the Radisson which was fine. We had our first Belizian breakfast at Fry Jacks with eggs, black beans and fried fish. It was delicious. That night we had dinner at Bird’s Isle Restaurant but were told we should have gone to a Chinese restaurant that was exceptional called, Chon Saan.
From there we rented a car with 4 wheel drive that we wound up not needing, but is a good idea if you plan to go into the jungle. The local car rental experince through One Car Rental which was a little bumpy, but our Jeep, called The Beast From Belize was awesome and they let us extend the return date 2 times.
We had a great vegan lunch at Martha’s Cafe before leaving for Placencia. We drove on hummingbird highway to get to Placencia which was a very scenic 3-hour drive. There is another way to get to Placencia in under 30 minutes, which is through puddle jumpers!
We arrived in Placencia to our AMAZING Airbnb with a private beach included in the listing. Once we got settled we got a massage at the Airbnb by an amazing husband and wife team that also owns a studio in town.
For dinner, we ended up finding some amazing spots like The Turtle Inn owned by Francis Ford Coppola , Rumfish y Vino, The Galley Restaurant & Bar which was extra amazing with a woman run kitchen where we watched local soccer while we ate, and finally Maya Beach Hotel, where I must say the lobster bread pudding is to die for! Finally, for dessert we found a great gelato spot at Tutti-Frutti Gelatoria.
If you are looking for a luxury spot that is full of activities such as kayaking, amazing facials and massages and lots of good food check out Naia Resort and Spa, I highly recommend it!
We took a snorkeling trip to Laughing Bird and Silk Cay through Placencia Eagle Ray Tours, which was AWESOME, the staff was wonderful and the experience was delightful, I would use them for any excursions!
For an interesting and once in a lifetime opportunity, reach out to the King of The Howler Monkeys who will take you to his village for lunch.
From Placencia we moved on to Hopkins Bay, which we liked but not as much as Placencia. We stayed at Hopkins Bay Resort and dined at Ella’s Cool Spot and Driftwood Beach Bar Pizza Shack. All very very good!
We hiked Mayan King Waterfall. There is no need for tour guide here. Just drive up, pay the fee and go. It was amazing! There is also ziplines available on Mayan King Ranch, too.
As a note, make sure you are on WhatsApp. Everybody uses it in Belize and it’s free. When texting and calling in Belize to others in Belize you need to use the plus symbol, “+,” and area code 501 as the prefix on all calls. If you have any questions or want more info on any of these wonderful spots in Belize, shoot me a DM!
